Marvin David Scott III (1994/1995 – March 14, 2021)[1] was anAfrican American man who died on March 14, 2021, inpolice custody at acorrectional facility inMcKinney, Texas, United States.[2] TheTexas Ranger Division is conducting an independentcriminal investigation of the incident.[3] Sevenlaw enforcement officers were placed onadministrative leave.[4]
On April 29, 2021, theCollin CountyMedical Examiner ruled that themanner of death in Scott's case washomicide.[5] According to the examiner, thecause of death was "fatalacute stress response in an individual with previously diagnosedschizophrenia during restraint struggle with law enforcement."[5]

Scott died after being placed on a restraint bed, pepper-sprayed, and having a spit mask put on his face while in custody at the Collin County Detention Facility north of Dallas in March. Scott's cause of death was "fatal acute stress response in an individual with previously diagnosed schizophrenia during restraint struggle with law enforcement," Collin County Medical Examiner Dr. William Rohr said in a news release.
