American radio broadcasting company

Martz Communications Group is an Americanradio broadcasting company, which operates three radio stations in theSt. Lawrence River area ofNew York and one inPittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The company, which also operates under the namesRadio Power andCartier Communications, is co-based inParishville, New York andSan Francisco, California;[1][2] with auxiliary offices inReno, Nevada;[3]Burlington, Vermont; andPointe-Claire,Quebec.[4]

The company was founded in 1986 by Tim Martz, a native ofKitchener, Ontario who purchased radio stations WDHP and WFST inPresque Isle, Maine, taking advantage of the market across the border inNew Brunswick,Canada without being required to submit to the rules of theCRTC.[4] Its scope eventually expanded to target largerCanadian markets, such asBrockville,Cornwall,Ottawa andMontreal, which lay within the broadcast range of its stations. The Canadian companySlaight Communications is also a minority shareholder in Martz. Slaight's ownership stake in Martz wasnot part of that company's sale of most of its broadcasting assets toAstral Media in 2007.

Martz Communications also handles advertising sales forBurlington, Vermont stationsWEZF (owned by Vox Communications) andWBTZ (owned byHall Communications).[4]

Martz also previously programmed theHD2 and HD3 feeds ofWGPR inDetroit,Michigan, which were repeated on local FM translators owned by Martz: W284BQ and W232CA. However, on January 31, 2012 Martz ceased operations of the HD feeds and the translators, due to financial and signal difficulties.[5]
