Martvili (Georgian:მარტვილი) is a small town inSamegrelo-Zemo Svaneti province of WesternGeorgia. Its monastery was Samegrelo's clerical centre in theMiddle Ages. UnderSoviet rule, from 1936 to 1990, it was named Gegechkori afterSasha Gegechkori, anOld Bolshevik.
The town of Martvili is located in theOdishi-Guria plain between the Noghela andAbasha rivers, 33 km from the town ofAbasha itself. The town rests 170 m above sea level.
As of the 2020 census, Martvili had a population of 4203 people.
