Mariana Brito da Cruz Forjaz Secca (born 30 October 1994), known professionally asMARO (stylised inall caps), is a Portuguese singer and songwriter. She wonFestival da Canção 2022 andrepresented Portugal in theEurovision Song Contest 2022 inTurin, Italy with the song "Saudade, saudade".[1][2]
Mariana is the second of the three children of João Pedro Basto Forjaz Secca and Cristina Isabel Capello Brito da Cruz.[3] She initially planned to become aveterinarian, but instead chose to pursue a musical career, studying atBerklee College of Music and moving toLos Angeles.[4]
She collaborated withJacob Collier on his 2019 albumDjesse Vol. 2 and has a presence onYouTube, where she has posted videos of herself singing with artists such asAntónio Zambujo,Rosa Passos,Eric Clapton,Mayra Andrade,Salvador Sobral, and many others.
She is featured on the track "Better Now" by American electronic music duoOdesza, the second single from the albumThe Last Goodbye.[5] As of April 2022, the song peaked at 19th on the Dance/Electronic Billboard Chart.[6]
