Status

Marne-la-Vallée has been gradually built up since the first plans in 1965 and now covers an area of over 15,000 hectares (37,000 acres) and includes 31communes, in thedépartements ofSeine-et-Marne,Seine-Saint-Denis andVal-de-Marne. Total population (2007) is 282,150.

For administrative purposes, the area has been divided into four sectors:

As of 1990 fewer than 10,000 persons of East/Southeast Asian origin resided in six communes of Marne-la-Vallée. 26% of the population ofLognes was Asian, and other percentages were 8% inNoisiel, 5-6% inNoisy-le-Grand, and 5-6% inTorcy. In 1982 there were 6,000 Asians in Marne-la-Vallée, making up 3-4% of the area's population. In 1987 the number increased to 9,000.[2]
