Mark Hollmann (born 1963) is an Americancomposer andlyricist.
Hollmann grew up inFairview Heights, Illinois, where he graduated fromBelleville Township High School East in 1981. He won a 2002Tony Award[1] and a 2001Obie Award[2] for his music and lyrics toUrinetown. He is a former ensemble member of theCardiff-Giant Theatre Company inChicago. He played trombone for the Chicagoart rock band Maestro Subgum and the Whole, and piano forThe Second City national touring company andChicago City Limits, animprov company inNew York City. He attended themusical theatrewriting workshop Making Tuners atTheatre Building Chicago and theBMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop in New York. While at the Making Turners workshop he began a show with Chicago-based writer Jack Helbig that became "The Girl, the Grouch, and the Goat," which has had professional productions in Los Angeles and Chicago.[3]
Hollmann is a member of theDramatists Guild of America andASCAP.[3] He lives inManhattan with his wife, Jillian, and their sons.[4] He currently is working on a new musical with his theatrical partnerGreg Kotis titledGood Luck In Space, meant to close off the “Urinetown Trilogy” withYeast Nation (The Triumph of Life) being the first installment.
