Mark R. Hardy (born May 3, 1988) is a Canadian formerprofessional baseballpitcher. Prior to beginning his professional career, he playedcollege baseball at theUniversity of British Columbia. Hardy has also competed for theCanadian national baseball team.
Hardy enrolled at theUniversity of British Columbia (UBC), where he playedcollege baseball for theUBC Thunderbirds baseball team, competing in theNational Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Hardy had a 17–3win–loss record in his junior and senior seasons at UBC.[1] He playedcollegiate summer baseball for theOkotoks Dawgs in theWestern Major Baseball League.[2]
"Mark's not overpowering. But he's got good stuff and he keeps the ball down. He also has a little pause in his delivery that throws off the hitter's timing. He has a chance. Everyone likes the way he competes."
TheSan Diego Padres selected Hardy in the 43rd round (1,294th overall) of the2010 Major League Baseball draft.[1] He received a $1,000signing bonus and a plane ticket upon signing.[1] In 2010, Hardy played for theArizona League Padres of the Rookie-levelArizona League, theEugene Emeralds of the Class-A Short SeasonNorthwest League, and theLake Elsinore Storm of the Class-A AdvancedCalifornia League. In 2011, he pitched for theFort Wayne TinCaps of the Class-AMidwest League.[3]
Hardy has played for theCanadian national baseball team. He appeared in the2008 World University Baseball Championship, winning theearned run average (ERA) award, with a 0.00 ERA inround-robin play.[4] In 2011, he participated in theBaseball World Cup, winning the bronze medal, and thePan American Games, winning the gold medal.[5][6]
