Mark Fisher ,OBE ,MVO ,RDI (20 April 1947 – 25 June 2013) was a British architect best known for his rock music stage sets. He was born inWarwickshire , England.
Fisher graduated from theArchitectural Association School of Architecture (AA School) in London in 1971.[ 1] [ 2] He was a Unit Master at the AA School from 1973 to 1977.[ 3] In 1984 he set up the Fisher Park Partnership with Jonathan Park.[ 4] The partnership was dissolved in 1994 when he established Stufish, the Mark Fisher Studio.[ 5]
Mark Fisher was architect for numerous rock music stages including the famous U2 "Claw" (2009) Fisher designed stage sets forPink Floyd (including 'In the Flesh Tour ' performed live in 1977, ‘The Wall Tour ’ performed live 1980–81 (withRoger Waters andGerald Scarfe )[ 6] [ 7] and 'The Division Bell Tour ' 1994),[ 8] forThe Rolling Stones (includingSteel Wheels/Urban Jungle Tour 1989,[ 9] Voodoo Lounge Tour 1994,[ 10] Bridges to Babylon Tour 1997,[ 11] [ 12] A Bigger Bang Tour 2005, and50 & Counting... Tour 2012),[ 13] Mylène Farmer (Avant que l'ombre... à Bercy in 2006,[ 14] 2009 Tour [ 15] andTimeless in 2013[ 16] ),Tina Turner [ 17] andU2 (including theZoo TV Tour in 1992,[ 18] PopMart Tour 1997[ 19] and theU2 360° Tour in 2009[ 20] ), and for the 2012Diamond Jubilee Concert ,[ 21] Madonna 's 2012The MDNA Tour ,[ 22] Lady Gaga 's 2012Born This Way Ball and for theMetallica 'sWorld Magnetic Tour .[ 23] In 2000, he created theMillennium Dome Show [ 24] [ 25] withPeter Gabriel . He has designed opening and closing ceremonies for the Olympics (Torino 2006 [ 26] andBeijing 2008 [ 27] ), TheGenesis 'Turn It On Again: The Tour ,The Million Dollar Piano forElton John and the2010 Asian Games ,[ 28] and stage sets for theatrical shows includingWe Will Rock You [ 29] and bothKÀ [ 30] [ 31] andViva Elvis [ 32] byCirque du Soleil inLas Vegas . He designed the stage sets forLaura Pausini 'sInedito World Tour .
Fisher designed the Han Show theatre in 2010. Fisher and his team worked closely with the client, designing a viable building alongside their vision of innovative technology and exhilarating spectacle.[ 33]
Fisher died in his sleep on 25 June 2013 at theMarie Curie Hospice inHampstead , UK,[ 34] leaving an estate, before taxes, of more than £7 million.[ 35] His design for Elton John'sDiving Board Tour debuted posthumously.[ 36]
