Marigot (French pronunciation:[maʁiɡo]ⓘ;Haitian Creole:Marigo) is acommune in theJacmel Arrondissement, in theSud-Estdepartment ofHaiti. It has 50,739 inhabitants.
In early 1793, during theHaitian Revolution, Marigot's black inhabitants rebelled and built a fort in the city.[2] Abbé Aubert, a white priest and leader of the rebellion in the area, also commandeered Marigot's cannons and contributed them toRomaine-la-Prophétesse's slave uprising around and siege ofJacmel.[3]
The Haitian writerÉmile Célestin-Mégie [fr] was born in Marigot.[4]
