Marienborn is a village and a former municipality in theBörde district inSaxony-Anhalt,Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it has been part of the municipality ofSommersdorf. It is about 27 km (17 mi) southwest ofHaldensleben. The historicpilgrimage centre near the formerinner German border is known for the preservedHelmstedt-Marienborn border crossing, now a memorial site.
In 1191Wichmann von Seeburg, thenArchbishop of Magdeburg, established an asylum at the site of anapparition of the Virgin Mary and a spring(Born) with healing waters, which during the 13th century evolved into a monastery forAugustinian nuns. The sisters of Marienborn abbey left a monastery church andcloister with foundations from about 1200, while the pilgrimage chapel at the spring is a replica dating from the 19th century.

Marienborn has access to theBundesautobahn 2 (a transit road during the division of Germany) and theBundesstraße 1 federal highway. The former railway border crossing atMarienborn station is today a stop on therailway line from Braunschweig to Magdeburg, served byRegionalbahn trains of theDeutsche Bahn company.
