Margherita Buy (Italian pronunciation:[marɡeˈriːtaˈbui];^[1] born 15 January 1962^[2]) is an Italian actress. She is a seven-timeDavid di Donatello Awards winner and eight-timeNastro d'Argento winner.

After a long period of studying at the Academy of Dramatic Arts, she made her breakthrough role inDuccio Tessari'sUna grande storia d'amore (1986), which was followed by roles inDaniele Luchetti's two projectsIt's Happening Tomorrow (1988) andThe Week of the Sphinx (1990). For the last one, she won the best performance by an actress in a leading role award at theSan Sebastian International Film Festival.

Afterwards, she played inSergio Rubini'sThe Station for which she won her firstDavid di Donatello Prize and theSilver Ribbon as best leading actress, in 1990. AfterThe Station, she became a premier star featuring in Italianbox office hits likeCarlo Verdone'sDamned the day I met you (1992). She teamed up again with directorDaniele Luchetti forThe Storm Is Coming (1992) and worked withMario Monicelli inLooking for Paradise (1995) andPozzessere (An Eyewitness Account).

In 1994 she was directed by her husband,Sergio Rubini, in the filmPrestazione straordinaria.
