
Marco Ramirez is an American television producer, screenwriter, and playwright who is best known for his work on theNetflix showsDaredevil andThe Defenders, and for co-creating the revival ofThe Twilight Zone.
His writing credits includeSons of Anarchy,Orange Is the New Black, andFear the Walking Dead. Ramirez worked as both a writer and producer for the first two seasons ofDa Vinci's Demons.[1] He began his work on thefirst season of theNetflix showDaredevil as a writer and executive producer.[2] AlongsideDouglas Petrie, he took over as the series' showrunner for thesecond season, and April 2016, they were announced as the creators of the Marvelcrossover miniseriesThe Defenders.[3] Ramirez worked withSimon Kinberg andJordan Peele to create thethird revival of the CBS science fiction anthology seriesThe Twilight Zone.[4]
Outside television, Marco Ramirez wrote his debut Off Broadway play calledThe Royale, which premiered at theLincoln Center Theater in 2016.[5] Since then, he has receivedDrama Desk andHelen Hayes nominations, and won theOuter Critics Circle’s John Gassner Playwriting Award for the play.[6]
Ramierez also wrote the book for the musicalBuena Vista Social Club, based on the album of the same name, which premiered on Broadway in 2025. He was nominated for aTony Award for Best Book of a Musical for his work on the show.[7]
