Marcelo Augusto Oliveira Chamusca (born 7 October 1966) is a Brazilian professionalfootballcoach and former player who played as adefensive midfielder.
Chamusca is known for being the only head coach who achieved promotions from all tiers of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Immediately after retiring, Chamusca joined Bahia's fierce rivalsVitória's youth setup. In 2000, after a two-year spell atSport, he returned to Bahia.[1]
Chamusca moved to the assistant role in 2002, and was adirector of football ofPalmeiras do Nordeste in the following year. His first managerial experience came in 2004, while in charge ofCRB.[2]
On 4 December 2015, Chamusca was namedSampaio Corrêa manager.[9] Dismissed the following 3 March, he was presented atGuarani on 15 April.[10]
Afterachieving promotion to theSérie B, Chamusca was appointed manager ofPaysandu on 2 December 2016.[11] The following 18 June, he resigned and moved to fellow second division teamCeará,[12] and achieved a top tier promotion in the end ofthe season; by doing so, he became the first manager to achieve promotions in all national tiers of Brazilian football.[13]
On 21 May 2018, Chamusca was sacked by Ceará. On 2 September, he took overPonte Preta, but was sacked late in the month.
On 14 October 2019, after unsuccessful spells atVitória and CRB, Chamusca was named in charge ofCuiabá also in the second division.[14] On 11 November of the following year, after impressing with the club in the2020 Copa do Brasil, he replacedRogério Ceni at the helm of top tier side Fortaleza, returning to the club for a third spell after nearly five years.[15]
On 7 January 2021, Chamusca was sacked after a poor run of form.[16] On 19 February, he was named at the helm ofrecently relegated sideBotafogo for the 2021 campaign.[17]
On 13 July 2021, after a poor run of form, Chamusca was sacked byBota.[18] On 18 August, he replacedHélio dos Anjos atNáutico also in the second division,[19] but left on a mutual agreement on 22 September.[20]
On 18 May 2022, Chamusca returned to Guarani after nearly six years,[21] but was sacked on 25 June after only six matches.[22] On 9 November, he was named in charge ofTombense.[23]
Chamusca was sacked by Tombense on 5 June 2023, with the club in the relegation zone of the2023 Série B.[24] He took over fellow league teamBotafogo-SP on 25 June, replacing sackedAdilson Batista.[25]
On 13 November 2023, Chamusca leftBota after accepting an offer from a Saudi club,[26] which was revealed to beAl-Faisaly three days later.[27] On 13 December of the following year, he took overFloresta.[28]
On 5 March 2025, Chamusca was dismissed after only avoiding relegation in the year'sCampeonato Cearense.[29] On 13 July, he returned to Tombense.[30]
