Marc Christopher Valdes (born December 20, 1971) is an American former professional baseballpitcher and current pitching coach for theSt. Lucie Mets. He played for theFlorida Marlins,Montreal Expos,Houston Astros andAtlanta Braves ofMajor League Baseball (MLB), and theHanshin Tigers andChunichi Dragons ofNippon Professional Baseball (NPB) .
Valdes was born inDayton, Ohio. He attendedJesuit High School inTampa, Florida, and played for the Tampa Jesuit Tigers high school baseball team. He graduated in 1990.
He received an athletic scholarship to attend theUniversity of Florida, where he played for coachJoe Arnold'sFlorida Gators baseball team from 1991 to 1993.
He played all or part of six seasons from1995-2001 for theFlorida Marlins,Montreal Expos,Houston Astros, andAtlanta Braves. He also played three seasons in Japan from2002-2004 for theHanshin Tigers andChunichi Dragons.
From2007-2008, Valdes was thepitching coach for the Rookie-levelKingsport Mets. On February 3,2009, he was named the pitching coach for the Single-ASavannah Sand Gnats. He was the pitching coach for theBinghamton Mets[1] before becoming the current pitching coach for theSt. Lucie Mets.[2]
