Themarbled reed frog orpainted reed frog (Hyperolius marmoratus) is a species offrogs in the familyHyperoliidae found inMalawi,Mozambique,South Africa,Eswatini,Zimbabwe,Botswana,Angola,Lesotho,Kenya,Zambia, andTanzania.It occurs in a wide range of naturalhabitats, includingforests,savannas,shrublands,grasslands,rivers,swamps, freshwaterlakes, and intermittent freshwater lakes. It coexists well with humans, and is also found in pastureland, rural gardens, andurban areas. Its range appears to be expanding to the winter rainfall area of theWestern Cape.[2][3]
Species in the genusHyperolius may display different colouration and patterns during day and night. Daylight colours are usually pale and drab, while their night-time appearance is colourful and eye-catching[4] – see images below.
