Marathon Airlines is aGreekairline headquartered inGlyfada,Greece. Its core activities areexecutive charter services,wet lease and aircraft management services.[5]

Operations

Marathon Airlines holds a Europeanair operator's certificate (AOC) in Greece and currently operates a fleet of Embraer aircraft,[6] and includes private jet charter, aircraft management andWet Lease (ACMI).[7] The airline is also a member of Wyvern,[8] theEBAA,[9] and theERA.[10][11] As of 2023, the airline planned to expand its activities and commence scheduled international services betweenAthens andBenghazi.[12]

Incidents and accidents

  • On 18 February 2024,Air Serbia Flight 324 fromBelgrade Airport toDüsseldorf Airport, operated by Marathon Airlines, was involved in an incident on runway 30L of Belgrade Airport. The aircraft, anEmbraer ERJ-195 (OY-GDC) suffered extensive damage after overshooting the runway. The aircraft had used an unplanned runway entry point, therefore reducing the available runway length by half. The aircraft overshot the runway, causing collisions with several runway instruments. After takeoff, the aircraft returned safely to Belgrade Airport. There were no injuries involved in this accident.[18]
