Mann Rubin

Mann Rubin (December 11, 1927 – October 12, 2013) was an Americanfilm and televisionscreenwriter, whose credits includedThe Best of Everything in 1959,Brainstorm in 1965,Warning Shot in 1967,The First Deadly Sin in 1980, andThe Human Shield in 1991.[1][2] He also taughtscreenwriting within thecinema and TV department at theUniversity of Southern California for more than ten years.[2]

Early life

Rubin was born inBrooklyn, New York.[1] He served in theUnited States Army from 1945 until 1947 before completing hisBachelor of Arts degree atNew York University in 1952.[1]

Career

He initially worked as ascience fiction writer forDC Comics. His writing credits at DC Comics includedMystery in Space andStrange Adventures.[1] Rubin later published stories inAlfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine.[1] He would later pen the screenplay for an episode ofThe Alfred Hitchcock Hour.[1]

Rubin penned scripts for dozens oftelevision series between the 1950s and 1990s.[1] His work in television began in the late 1940s with theCBSanthology series,Studio One in Hollywood, andTales of Tomorrow, which aired onABC.[1][2] His numerous television credits included episodes ofDynasty,The F.B.I.,The Feather and Father Gang,The Fugitive,Mannix,Mission: Impossible,The Mod Squad,Perry Mason,Quincy, M.E.,The Rockford Files,The Six Million Dollar Man, andStarsky & Hutch.[1][2] His later television series was the short-lived reboot ofDragnet in 1990.[1][3]

Rubin was also active infeature film. Rubin andEdith Sommer co-wrote the 1959Jean Negulesco film,The Best of Everything, which theyadapted from the 1958novel of the same name byRona Jaffe.[1] Rubin also adapted the 1980 film,The First Deadly Sin, from anovel byLawrence Sanders.[1]The First Deadly Sin, which starredFrank Sinatra andFaye Dunaway, marked Sinatra's last major film role.[1][2]

In more recent years, Rubin wrote the scripts for twoshort films. He co-wroteA Nice Touch, a 2012 short directed by Richard Jones, which starred Scottish actor,Dougray Scott.[1] Rubin's last short film,A Lasting Impression, which starsTanna Frederick, will debut at variousfilm festivals in 2014.[1]

Death

Mann Rubin died of a long illness on October 12, 2013, inWest Hills, California, at the age of 85.[1][2]
