Manipur University (Meitei:Manipur Taibang Maheikol) is acentral university located inImphal,Manipur, India. It was established on 5 June 1980, under theManipur University Act, 1980 (Manipur Act 8 of 1980), as a teaching cum-affiliating university with territorial jurisdiction over the state of Manipur. It was converted into a central university under theManipur University Act, 2005[3] w.e.f. 13 October 2005.[4]

The university is in Canchipur, about 7 km fromImphal, the capital city of the Indian state ofManipur. The campus is spread over 287 acres (1.16 km2) in historic Canchipur, the old palace of the kingdom of Manipur.
Thevisitor of the university is thepresident of India and the chief rector is theGovernor of Manipur. As of 2024[update], thechancellor is Professor T. Tirupati Rao[5] and thevice-chancellor is Professor Naorem Lokendra Singh[6]
