Early life and education

[edit]

Aragona grew up in aFilipino American family inLansdale, Pennsylvania. His mother, a former pageant queen in the Philippines, won Best Evening Gown in the 1987 Miss Philippines competition inBaguio.[3] Growing up, Aragona's most consistent support came from his brother, a former professional dancer.[4] He attendedNorth Penn High School, and graduated fromWest Chester University with a degree in nursing.[2] At both schools, he was a member of theOmicron Delta Kappa honor society.[5] In 2014, while at orientation for West Chester, he initially came out as bisexual, but later came out as gay to his parents while celebrating his mother's birthday in October.[6] While attending West Chester, he was additionally selected by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education to embark on a trip along theCamino de Santiago.[7] Aragona is currently pursuing his masters degree atJacksonville State University.[8]

Career and public image

[edit]

While at West Chester, Aragona performed as Mandy Mango for the first time at a competition, where she lip-synced to Chelley’s “Took the Night”, and won.[9] Following graduation, Aragona moved toWilliamsport, where he further immersed himself in drag culture. He found drag allowed him to express his feminine traits, which had long been an insecurity.[10] Aragona also uses the Mandy Mango to pay homage to his Filipino heritage, with “Mango” referring to the PhilippineCarabao mango, known as being among the sweetest mangoes in the world.

Since she began drag, Mandy Mango has become a frequent performer at Philadelphia nightlife competition Snatcherella 3000.[11] In 2024, Mandy Mango hosted the No Arena Drag Show to protest the now abandoned plans to build a new home stadium for thePhiladelphia 76ers inthe city’s Chinatown.[10]

Mandy Mango competed on theeighteenth season ofRuPaul's Drag Race, and based her entrance look on the character Nurse Joy from thePokémon franchise.[8] She placed in the bottom on the first episode alongside Kenya Pleaser; however, both were allowed to remain in the competition.[12] In the following episode, she placed in the bottom again, but won a lip-sync againstDD Fuego, eliminating her, and was once again allowed to remain in the competition.[13] In episode three, she once again landed in the bottom, but lost her lip-sync againstBriar Blush, and was thus eliminated from the competition.[14]

Outside of drag, Aragona is a registered nurse in the state of Pennsylvania, specializing in HIV/AIDS treatment. He spent four years working as a sexual health nurse for the AIDS Resource Alliance, a non-profit organization in Williamsport that provides resources, education and treatment for those living with HIV. As of 2026, Aragona currently works as a disease ambulatory nurse atPenn Medicine.[8]
