In 2006,[5] Dr. Tapati Saha ofCPI(M) won the Mandirbazar Assembly constituency defeating Choudhury Mohan Jatua ofAITC. Choudhury Mohan Jatua ofAITC won in 2001[6] defeating Nikunja Paik ofCPI(M). In 1996,[7] Nikunja Paik ofCPI(M) defeated Tapan Sardar ofINC. Subhas Roy ofCPI(M) won in 1991, 1987 and 1982 defeating Sanat Paik ofINC in 1991,[8] Durga Charan Mondal ofINC in 1987[9] and Birendranath Halder ofINC in 1982.[10] Renupada Halder ofSUCI(C) defeated Subhas Roy ofCPI(M) in 1977.[11][12] The seat did not exist prior to that.
