Mandelate racemase (EC5.1.2.2) is abacterialenzyme whichcatalyzes the interconversion of theenantiomers ofmandelate via anenol intermediate.[1] This enzymecatalyses the followingchemical reaction

(S)-mandelate{\displaystyle \rightleftharpoons } (R)-mandelate

It is a member of theenolase superfamily of enzymes, along withmuconate lactonizing enzyme andenolase.
