Malvi orMalwi orAhiri[2] (माळवी भाषा) is anIndo-Aryan language native to Ahirs, spoken in theMalwa region of India, in parts ofRajasthan andMadhya Pradesh.

Writing system

In India, Malvi is written in theDevanagari script, anabugida which is written from left to right. Earlier, theMahajani script, or Modiya, was used to write Rajasthani. The script is also called as Maru Gurjari in a few records.[3][4]

Umathwadi is Malvi with some features ofHadauti

About 75% of the Malvi population can converse inHindi, which is the official language of the Madhya Pradesh state, and literacy rate in a second language such as Hindi is about 40%. There are many unpublished materials in this language.
