Malik Henry (born July 23, 2002) is a Canadiansoccer player who plays forToronto FC inMajor League Soccer.
Henry began playing youth soccer at age four with Saltfleet Stoney Creek SC.[1] He later played withHamilton United, before spending three years with theToronto FC Academy from U15 to U17 level.[2][3]
In 2020, he began attending theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he played for themen's soccer team.[4]
In 2021, he transferred toUniversity of Akron to play for theirmen's soccer team.[5] At the end of the season, he was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team,[6] All-Ohio Second Team,[7] and was ranked #50 on theTopDrawerSoccer.com Men's National Freshmen Top-100 Postseason list.[8] In 2022, he was named to the All-MAC First Team.[9] In 2023, he was named to the All-Big East Conference Second Team[10] and the 2023 All-East Region Third Team.[11] After the 2023 season, he was draft in the2023 MLS SuperDraft byCF Montréal,[12] however, he chose to return to Akron for the 2024 year to finish his degree and complete his final season of eligibility.[13] Ahead of the 2024 season, he was named to the Big East All-Preseason Team.[14] On September 28, 2024, he scored his first career collegiate goal in a 1-0 victory over theGerogetown Hoyas.[15] At the end of the 2024 season, he was named to the All-Big East Second Team and the All-East Region First Team.[16][17]
In 2018, Henry played withToronto FC III inLeague1 Ontario.[18]
In 2022, he played withHamilton United inLeague1 Ontario.[19] He scored one goal for the club in a 5-1 victory overScrosoppi FC.[20]
In 2023, he played with theFlint City Bucks inUSL League Two.[21]
At the2024 MLS SuperDraft, Henry was selected in the 2nd round (39th overall) byCF Montréal.[22] He then returned to college for another season, before attending training camp with the club in 2025, but was told there was no roster space available to sign him.[23]
In March 2025, he signed withToronto FC II inMLS Next Pro.[24] He made his debut on March 9 againstFC Cincinnati 2.[25] In June 2025, he signed a short-term loan with theToronto FC first team.[26] He made hisMajor League Soccer debut on June 25, 2025 against theNew York Red Bulls.[27] He later signed an additional short-term loans.[28][29] In July 2025, Toronto FC acquired his MLS rights from CF Montréal, in exchange for $75,000 in conditional generalallocation money and a2026 MLS SuperDraft third-round pick, while also retaining a sell-on clause.[30]
In August 2025, he signed a first team contract withToronto FC for the remainder of 2025, with options for 2026 and 2027.[31][32] He would later be loaned to the second team for some matches later in 2025.[33]
He made his debut in the Canadian national program in February 2017, attending a camp with the Canada U15 team.[1] In August, he was named to the roster for the2017 CONCACAF Boys' Under-15 Championship.[1]
