Malawi has competed in twelveSummer Olympic Games. They have never competed in theWinter Olympic Games.
The country's first Olympics was the 1972 Munich Olympics. Malawi didn't compete in the1976 in Montreal because no athletes had qualified.[1] Malawi boycotted the1980 Summer Olympics and returned during the1984 Summer Olympics.
Malawi has never won an Olympic medal.[2][3]

As of Sunday afternoon, 26 countries that were supposed to compete in the Games were out, but not all for political reasons. Zaire and Malawi decided not to enter because their pre-Games performances were not of Olympic caliber.
