Malampuzha River is one of the tributaries of the riverKalpathipuzha.[1]Malampuzha Dam is built across the river atMalampuzha about 8 km from thePalakkad city in theIndian state ofKerala.[2] The reservoir formed by theMalampuzha Dam is 23.13 square kilometres in area and is the second largest reservoir in Kerala after theIdukki reservoir.[3] The construction of Malampuzha dam started in the year 1949 and was completed in the year 1955.[4] The project is estimated to have cost aroundRs. 53 million. Malampuzha river joins the Kalpathipuzha, a tributary of theBharathapuzha atPalakkad. Kalpathipuzha then flows westward to joinKannadipuzha atParali to form Bharathapuzha, which ultimately flows untilPonnani, passing through towns and villagesMankara,Pathirippala,Lakkidi,Thiruvilwamala,Ottapalam,Mayannur,Shoranur,Cheruthuruthy,Thirumittakode,Pattambi,Thrithala,Kudallur,Kuttippuram,Thirunavaya andChamravattom.
