Maisnam Amubi Singh was an exponent of the Indian classical dance form ofManipuri,[1] and the founding supervisor of the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy.[2][3] Singh, who was credited with pioneering solo dance inManipuri,[2] was the first winner ofSangeet Natak Akademi award from the state ofManipur which he won in 1956.[4] He was honoured by theGovernment of India in 1970 withPadma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award.[5]
