Maika Hamano (Japanese:浜野 まいか,Hamano Maika,pronounced[ha̠ma̠no̞ma̠i̥ka̠];[2] born 9 May 2004) is a Japanese professionalfootballer who plays as aforward forWomen's Super League clubChelsea and theJapan national team.

Club career

Hamano made herWE League debut forINAC Kobe Leonessa on 12 September 2021 in a 5–0 victory overOmiya Ardija Ventus.[3]

On 13 January 2023, Hamano signed forChelsea and was immediately loaned to Swedish sideHammarby IF.[4][5] There, she made 17 league appearances and scored 7 goals during the2023 Damallsvenskan season,[1] before being recalled in September after sustaining a shoulder injury.[6]

After recovering from injury, Hamano made herWomen's Super League debut for Chelsea on 17 December 2023 in a 3–0 away win overBristol City, replacingLauren James in the second half.[7]

International career

In July 2022, Hamano was included in the Japanunder-20 team for the2022 U-20 World Cup,[8] where they finished as runners-up after losing toSpain in the final. She won the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player, and the Silver Boot as the second-best goalscorer behindInma Gabarro.[9]

Hamano made hersenior team debut on 6 October 2022, when she came on as a substitute forMina Tanaka in the 69th minute of a 2–0friendly win overNigeria.[10][11] On 13 June 2023, she was included in Japan's 23-player squad for the2023 World Cup.[12]

On 14 June 2024, Hamano was included in the Japan squad for the2024 Summer Olympics.[13]

Hamano was part of the Japan squad that won the2025 SheBelieves Cup.[14]
