Mahlsdorf (German pronunciation:[ˈmaːlsˌdɔʁf]ⓘ) is alocality (Ortsteil) within theBerlin borough (Bezirk) ofMarzahn-Hellersdorf. Until 2001 it was part of the former borough ofHellersdorf.
The locality was mentioned for the first time in a document of 1345, named asMalterstorp. Until 1920 it was a municipality of the formerNiederbarnim district, merged into Berlin with the "Greater Berlin Act".[2]
Mahlsdorf is located in the eastern suburb of Berlin, at the borders with theBrandenburger district ofMärkisch-Oderland. It is bounded by the municipality ofNeuenhagen andHoppegarten, with its hamletsHönow,Waldesruh andBirkenstein. The Berliner bordering localities areHellersdorf,Kaulsdorf andKöpenick (inTreptow-Köpenick district). In the south of the quarter there are the lakesElsensee and part of theHabermannsee, divided with Kaulsdorf.

The locality, crossed by the federal highwaysB1 andB5, is served by theS-Bahn lineS5, at the rail station ofMahlsdorf.Birkenstein station, situated in the homonymous hamlet of the town of Hoppegarten, is close to the eastern suburb of the quarter.
