"Mahika" (lit. 'Magic') is a song composed and performed by the Filipino singersAdie andJanine Berdin. It was released as asingle on May 11, 2022, byO/C Records. Produced by Adie, "Mahika" is an acousticballad with acontemporary pop sound, led by acoustic guitar and piano.[1][2] The song was later included in Adie's debut studio albumSenaryo (2023).
"Mahika" peaked at number one onBillboard'sPhilippines Songs for two weeks, and was Adie's and Berdin's first number-one song on the chart. It is also the first duet to reach the summit and made Berdin the first Filipina to have a chart-topping song.[3][4] The track has become the chart's longest charting song at 70 weeks.[5]
"Mahika" was the first song collaboration between Adie and Janine Berdin. Both young artists had already been doing very well in their solo careers before they composed and performed the song.[6]
On August 23, 2023,Rolling Stone's Tara Aquino, listed Mahika as one of the songs toKeep on Your RADAR. And added that the song is a perfect example of the acoustic ballads that Filipino musicians do best.[1]
"Mahika" lyrics was composed by both Adie and Berdin. As they wrote: "This was inspired by the feeling people have when they get butterflies the first time one encounters moments that seem magical".[2][1]
The official music video was released on August 6, 2022 featuring Audrei Garcia and Chloe Anne Reyes.
Adie and Berdin performed "Mahika", alongside the Filipino singer-songwritersAce Banzuelo andMoira Dela Torre, and also sang Banzulo's song "Muli" during an episode ofASAP Natin 'To on October 16, 2022.[7] The duo also performed the track live onWish 107.5 and a video of it was released toYouTube, which has 17 million views as of March 2024.[8]
Julie Anne San Jose andRayver Cruz performed "Mahika" during a JulieVerse concert on November 26, 2022.[9]
"Mahika" was notably on the number one spot for the last months of the year 2022 on Billboard Philippines.[10]
By the end of 2022, Spotify reported a total of more than 85 million streams for Mahika.
On December 11, 2024 Spotify reported 313,867,174 total streams which made "Mahika" as the song with most number of streams performed by a Filipino Artist. It had surpassed the number of streams for Lea Salonga's "A Whole New World" at 312,085,412 streams and which previously held the top spot.[11][12]
