Rimpy Kaur "Mahie" Gill (born 19 December 1975) is an Indian actress, working in theHindi andPunjabi film industries.[ 1] She is best known for her role ofParo inAnurag Kashyap 's critically acclaimedHindi filmDev.D , a modern take onSarat Chandra Chattopadhyay 'sBengali novellaDevdas , for which she also won theFilmfare Critics Award for Best Actress in 2010. She started her career inPunjabi films before making a debut in Bollywood withDev.D .[ 2] [ 3]
She consequently gained recognition after portraying Madhavi Devi, a sexually frustrated wife inSaheb, Biwi Aur Gangster , as well as its sequel,Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns .
Early life and education [ edit ] Gill was born inChandigarh in aPunjabi Jat Sikh family on 19 December in 1975.[ 1] She completed her master's degree in theater fromPanjab University, Chandigarh in 1998.[ 4]
Gill got her first break with thePunjabi basedBollywood filmHawayein and has done a couple ofPunjabi films along with theatre. Anurag first saw her at a party and instantly finalized her to play the character of Paro in the movieDev D .[ 5] She worked in Ram Gopal Verma'sNot a Love Story , which was based on the Niraj Grover Murder case of 2008.[ 6] She also worked inSaheb, Biwi Aur Gangster withJimmy Sheirgill andRandeep Hooda , which was released on 30 September 2011. This movie earned her a nomination at the Filmfare Awards for Best Actress.[ 7]
Gill appeared inPaan Singh Tomar withIrrfan Khan . It is the true story of an athlete who became adacoit . In this, she played the title character's wife. Gill made her debut withApoorva Lakhia 's filmToofan , simultaneously shot with the Hindi version,Zanjeer . She did her first everitem number inTigmanshu Dhulia 's filmBullett Raja .[ 8]

Gill lives inGoa with her boyfriend and has a daughter, Veronica.[ 10] In 2023, she confirmed being married to her partner, Ravi Kesar.[ 11]
