Madhavi Sunder is the Frank Sherry Professor of Intellectual Property atGeorgetown University Law Center. She is known for her work onintellectual property, law and technology, women'shuman rights, andinternational development.
Sunder graduated fromMainland Regional High School (New Jersey) where she was the co-editor of the school newspaper.[1] She attendedHarvard University[2] and received herA.B. in 1992. She then moved toStanford University where she earned aJ.D. in 1997.[3] After law school she worked in New York City for the law firmCleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton.[4] From 1998 until 1999 she clerked for JudgeHarry Pregerson of theU.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.[5]
Sunder was a professor at theUniversity of California, Davis, School of Law from 1999 to 2018. As of 2025 she is the Frank Sherry Professor of Intellectual Property at Georgetown Law.[6]
In 2006 Sunder was named aCarnegie Scholar.[8]
