TheMad River is a 5.2-mile-long (8.4 km)[1] river in easternNew Hampshire in theUnited States. It is atributary of theCochecho River, part of thePiscataqua Riverwatershed leading to theAtlantic Ocean.
The river is located entirely in the town ofFarmington. It rises in Nubble Pond, between Nubble Mountain and Hussey Mountain, and flows northwest, then northeast, reaching the Cochecho near the town center of Farmington. The river drops more than 500 feet (150 m) over its 5-mile (8 km) route, in places falling over scenic ledges.
