Mack Avenue Records is anindependent record label inGrosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.
Mack Avenue was founded in 1999 by Gretchen Carhartt Valade, a jazz fan andchair of the American apparel companyCarhartt. The company is a sponsor of theDetroit Jazz Festival, to which Gretchen Valade donated $15 million in 2006.[1]
Early Mack recording artists includedTerry Gibbs,Oscar Castro-Neves, andGeorge Shearing. Over time Mack Avenue signed veteran jazz musicians such asGary Burton,Kevin Eubanks,Stanley Jordan,Christian McBride,Gerald Wilson, and theYellowjackets. Acquisitions made in 2008 expanded the label's catalogue into additional genres, such as theblues,gospel, and rhythm and blues (R&B), withJonathan Butler,Brian Bromberg,Rick Braun,Richard Elliot, andKenny Rankin. Mack Avenue's recording artists have earned multipleGrammy awards and nominations.[2][3]
In 2016, Mack Avenue expanded its catalog when it acquiredMAXJAZZ.[4]
