Machlolophus is agenus of birds in thetit family. The species were formerly placed with many others in the genusParus but were moved toMachlolophus based on a molecular phylogenetic analysis published in 2013 that showed that the members formed a distinctclade.[2]

The nameMachlolophus was introduced by the German ornithologistJean Cabanis in 1850.[3] The word is derived from the classical Greekmakhlos meaning luxuriant, andlophos meaning crest.[4]
