MacArthur's Children (瀬戸内少年野球団,Setouchi Shōnen Yakyū-dan; literally, "The Boys' Baseball Team fromSetouchi") is a 1984 Japanese film directed byMasahiro Shinoda. Describing the impact of theUnited States'occupation of Japan from the perspective of the inhabitants of a small, rural island community,[1][2][3][4] the film featured the big screen debut of actorKen Watanabe.
The film was selected as the Japanese entry for theBest Foreign Language Film at the57th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.[5]
Filmed onManabeshima, a small island fishing community in theKasaoka Islands, ofOkayama Prefecture on theSeto Inland Sea.
