TheMLB World Tour: Mexico City Series is a recurring series ofMajor League Baseball (MLB) games played atEstadio Alfredo Harp Helú inMexico City. The first games played were between theSan Diego Padres andSan Francisco Giants during the2023 season. The series is part of theMLB World Tour.

Major League Baseball (MLB) scheduled two games atEstadio Alfredo Harp Helú to be played on April 18–19, 2020, with theArizona Diamondbacks hosting theSan Diego Padres.[1] MLB canceled this series on March 19, 2020, due to theCOVID-19 pandemic.[2]

2023

The first regular-season games to be played inMexico City[a] took place during the2023 season on April 29–30, between the Padres andSan Francisco Giants, as part ofMLB World Tour (MLB games played outside of the United States and Canada). The Padres, the designated home team, won both games, by scores of 16–11 and 6–4.[3][4] The crowd was heavily biased towards the Padres, who are based very close to the Mexican border, and attracted fans from the U.S. and from across Mexico.[5] Due to the high altitude and hitter-friendly dimensions of the stadium, the first game included 11 home runs from 10 different players, tying an MLB record.[6] On the Wednesday after the trip, Giants pitcherLogan Webb told reporters that he thought most of the Giants team returned from Mexico City withdigestive ailments.[7]

Television coverage was provided byMLB Network in the United States andESPN Mexico in Mexico, withstreaming viaMLB.TV andStar+.[8]

2024

For the2024 season, MLB announced two games between theHouston Astros andColorado Rockies, scheduled for April 27–28.[9] Television coverage byImagen Televisión andESPN was planned for both games[10] although only the first was aired for free in Mexico and only the latter was aired nationally in the United States.[11] The Astros won both games, by scores of 12–4 and 8–2.[12][13]
