Mark Alistair Sinclair Blackburn,FSA, FRHistS (5 January 1953 – 1 September 2011) was a Britishnumismatist andeconomic historian. He was educated at theSkinners' School in Tunbridge Wells andSt Edmund Hall, Oxford. He was Keeper of Coins and Medals atFitzwilliam Museum from 1991 to 2011,Reader in Numismatics and Monetary History at theUniversity of Cambridge from 2004 to 2011, and aFellow ofGonville and Caius College, Cambridge from 2005. He was thePresident of theBritish Numismatic Society between 2004 and 2008.[1][2][3][4][5]
In 1983, Blackburn was elected aFellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (FSA).[1] In 1989, he was elected aFellow of the Royal Historical Society (FRHistS).[1] He was awarded the2008 Medal of theRoyal Numismatic Society.[6] In 2008, he was awarded the John Sanford Saltus Medal by theBritish Numismatic Society.[7] In 2011, he was awarded the Derek Allen Prize by theBritish Academy.[8]
He died of cancer aged 58, and was survived by his wife and three children.[9]
