Mélanie René (born 1 September 1990), also known asMeylz, is a Swiss singer and songwriter of Mauritian descent. She is best known forrepresented Switzerland in theEurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Time to Shine". Beyond Eurovision, she has performed internationally, worked as a vocal coach, and pursued projects blending pop, soul, and acoustic influences.[1]

René is from aMauritian origin.[2]

René gained recognition by winning the Swiss final for the 2015Eurovision Song Contest with her composition "Time To Shine." This victory earned her the opportunity to represent Switzerland inVienna. René, hailing from a family with a musical background, developed her passion for music from a young age.

She underwent training in performing arts and songwriting at the Funambule Theatre inNyon, Switzerland.[3] René's talent was acknowledged at various competitions, including the George Grigoriu Festival inBraila, Romania, where she received the grand prize in 2009.

Seeking to further her musical education she pursued studies at the ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music) and the BIMM (Brighton Institute of Modern Music) in theUnited Kingdom, where she composed herEurovision Song Contest entry.[4]

Mélanie René was born inGeneva,Switzerland, to parents ofMauritians origin.[5] Growing up in a musically inclined family, she was exposed toGospel andSoul music from an early age. She studied music and vocal performance at music schools inSwitzerland and theUnited Kingdom, where she later trained inSongwriting andLive performance.

Eurovision Song Contest 2015

In January 2015, René won the Swiss national final "Die grosse Entscheidungsshow" with her original song "Time to Shine".[6] She representedSwitzerland at theEurovision Song Contest 2015 inVienna, performing the song in the second semi-final, where she finished 17th (last) with 4 points and did not qualify for the final.[7] This made her Switzerland's first French-speaking entrant since 1996.[8]

Later work as Melyz

In 2018, she adopted the stage name "Melyz" and shifted toelectro-pop. She released her debut EP *Don't Tell On Us* in 2019, followed by singles such as "Dancefloor" and "Bad Together".[9] She has also worked as avocal coach andperformer in Swiss media and festival circuits.
