Lyn Ashley (bornLynette Ashley Rumble; 18 March 1940) is an Australian actress who worked in the United Kingdom on television during the 1960s.

Early life

Ashley was born Lynette Ashley Rumble inTownsville,Queensland,[1] on 18 March 1940.[2] She is the daughter of actressMadge Ryan.[3]

Career

Her television credits includeMaigret,The Saint,[4]Danger Man,Compact,[5]Doctor Who (in the serialGalaxy 4),[6] andMonty Python's Flying Circus. When sketches from the show were performed on stage inMonty Python Live at Drury Lane, she played the parts originally performed byCarol Cleveland, who was unavailable at the time.[7] She screen tested forEmma Peel's replacement onThe Avengers.[citation needed]

She also acted in films such asMister Ten Per Cent (1967),I'll Never Forget What's'isname (1967)[8] andQuest for Love (1971).[1]

Ashley was married to Monty Python memberEric Idle from 1969[1] until 1975; they have one son together, born in 1973.[9] She was frequently credited onMonty Python's Flying Circus as 'Mrs Idle'.[10][2] She also appeared in Idle's TV showRutland Weekend Television.[11]

She was later a cast member of the early 1990s soap operaFamilies.[12]
