Lunette (fortification)

Two different kinds of lunette

Infortification, alunette was originally anoutwork of half-moon shape; later it became aredan with short flanks, in trace somewhat resembling abastion standing by itself without curtains on either side. Thegorge was generally open.[1][2]

One noted historical example of a lunette was the one used at theBattle of the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, in March 1836.[3] Another were theBagration flèches, at theBattle of Borodino, in 1812.
