Lumbres (French pronunciation:[lœ̃bʁ];West Flemish:Lumeres) is acommune in thePas-de-Calaisdepartment in the Hauts-de-Franceregion of France[3] at the junction of the valleys of the riversAa andBléquin, about 6 miles (10 km) southwest ofSaint-Omer.

History

Evidence of prehistoric occupation, at the place known as theMontagne de Lumbres has been discovered by.[5] Pontier andCanon Collet, of the abbey of Wisques, who were the first to study the prehistory of the area, includingArques,Elnes and Wavrans.
Because of its industrial importance, and proximity to fortifiedV2 sites, the commune suffered heavily fromAllied bombing duringWorld War II.

Transport

TheChemin de fer d'Anvin à Calais (CF AC) opened a railway station at Lumbres in 1881.[6] The CF AC was closed in 1955.[7] Lumbres station is also on theBoulogneSaint-Omer line.
