Halwara International Airport[1] (IATA:HWR,ICAO:VIHX) also known asLudhiana International Airport is aninternational airport being built at the town ofHalwara inLudhiana,Punjab,India, on the former site of theHalwara Air Force Station.[2][3]

It is the third international airport in Punjab afterAmritsar andChandigarh.[4] The site is 32-km drive fromLudhiana City and the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has acquired 161.27 acres of land[5] in Halwara for the building of a Ludhiana international civil terminal. The airport is being built to accommodateBoeing 737-700 andAirbus A320 aircraft. The upcoming airport is likely to accelerate the growth of businesses in Ludhiana.[6] Air India is set to start flights to the airport, once it has been handed over to AAI.[7]

The airport was inaugurated by Prime MinisterNarendra Modi on 1 February 2026.[8]

Current status

The airport was planned to be operational by 31 March 2022 but the project had been stalled from May after GLADA failed to release funds for its construction.The construction for the airport was again started on 21 November 2022, after Punjab Government released funds through GLADA and Finance department.A flight take departure today from this airport to udaipur.[9]The airport was be inaugurated by Prime MinisterNarendra Modi on 1 February 2026 and the flights are expected to start in March[10]
