Luco dei Marsi is acomune andtown in theprovince of L'Aquila in theAbruzzo region of central-easternItaly. It is part of theMarsica.
The town was probably founded by the Roman EmperorClaudius to house workers in the drying of theLacus Fucinus (Lake Fucino). The name derives from a nearby wood,Lucus Angitiae, "Sacred Grove ofAngitia", referring to a divine sorceress of theMarsi Italic tribe.
During the Middle Ages it was a fief of the D'Aquino and then of theColonna family.
