Lucas Daniel Romero (born 18 April 1994) is an Argentine professionalfootballer who plays as adefensive midfielder forCampeonato Brasileiro Série A clubCruzeiro.

Early life

Romero was born and raised in a humble neighborhood inLoma Hermosa,Greater Buenos Aires.[2][3] He started playing youth football inVélez Sársfield when he was 7 years old.[4]

Romero made his debut forVélez Sársfield in 2012 at 18 years of age, coming on as a substitute in a 0–0 draw withEstudiantes de La Plata.[5] In his first season with the first team, Romero helped Vélez to win the2012 Inicial championship, playing 13 games (including 4 as a starter replacing injuredFrancisco Cerro).[5] The midfielder also entered the field in Vélez's victory overNewell's Old Boys for the2012–13 Superfinal and was a starter in his team's victory overArsenal de Sarandí for the2013 Supercopa Argentina. In 2016, Romero was transferred toCruzeiro Esporte Clube.

Independiente

On 5 August 2019, Romero signed withIndependiente.[6] He debuted in a 3–0 defeat againstEstudiantes de La Plata.[7]

Club León

On 3 January 2023, Romero joinedClub León.[8] On 27 November 2023, he suffered a concussion during a match againstSantos Laguna,[9] and had to miss the first game of theLiga MXquarterfinals againstAmérica.[10]

International career

Romero played with theArgentina national under-20 football team the2013 South American Youth Championship, in which his team was eliminated in the first round.
