Lubna Azabal is a Belgian actress. She is known for her performances inParadise Now andIncendies.

Biography

Lubna Azabal was born inBrussels to aMoroccan father and aSpanish mother. She was raisedtrilingual (French, Spanish andBerber).[1]

She studying at theRoyal Conservatory of Brussels.[citation needed]

Career

Azabal began a theatrical career in Belgium. In 1997, she took her first film role when Belgian film-makerVincent Lannoo chose her to act besideOlivier Gourmet in his short filmJ'adore le cinéma.[citation needed] She performs in English, French and Arabic.

Her most widely known film role is in the 2005 politicalthriller,Paradise Now. She appears in a smaller role inRidley Scott'sBody of Lies. She has a lead part alongsideMaggie Gyllenhaal inHugo Blick's 2014 BBC TV miniseriesThe Honourable Woman.[citation needed]

She starred oppositeBen Foster in the independent filmHere (2011).[citation needed]

In 2018, Azabal appeared as Susannah inHelen Edmundson's filmMary Magdalene.[2]

Awards

Azabal won the Black Pearl Award 2010 (Abu Dhabi Film Festival) for Best Actress for her role in the filmIncendies.[3] She also won theGenie Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role at the31st Genie Awards and theMagritte Award for Best Actress at the2nd Magritte Awards.[4]
