Luís Caetano Pereira Guimarães Júnior (17 February 1845, inRio de Janeiro – 20 May 1898, inLisbon) was a Brazilian diplomat, poet, novelist and dramaturgist.[1]
He undertook his education in theFaculdade de Direito do Recife in 1869, in the same class of the writerAraripe Júnior. His works switched fromRomanticism toParnasianism. During his career, he also used thepseudonym Oscar d'Alva.[2]
As a diplomat, he lived inSantiago de Chile,Roma andLisbon, where he finally stayed and he met intellectuals such asEça de Queiroz,Ramalho Ortigão,Guerra Junqueiro orFialho de Almeida. He was a member and one of the founders ofAcademia Brasileira de Letras.
