Loureedia is agenus ofvelvet spiders that was first described by J. A. Miller in 2012.[2] As of July 2020[update], it contained four species:L. annulipes,L. colleni,L. lucasi andL. phoenixi.[1] This genus of velvet spiders that live underground are named afterLou Reed, songwriter, guitarist and singer forthe Velvet Underground. In 2020, researchers discovered the fourth species,L. phoenixi, in Iran; it is named afterJoaquin Phoenix.[3]
L. annulipes was formerly considered a member ofEresus.
