TheLombardia Trophy is an annualfigure skating competition sanctioned by theInternational Skating Union (ISU), organized and hosted by theItalian Ice Sports Federation (Italian:Federazione Italiana Sport del Ghiaccio). The competition debuted in 2013 inSesto San Giovanni, and when the ISU launched theISU Challenger Series in 2014, the Lombardia Trophy was one of the inaugural competitions. The Lombardia Trophy has been a Challenger Series event ten times during its history as of 2025. Medals are awarded inmen's singles, women's singles, pair skating, andice dance; and when the event is part of the Challenger Series, skaters earnISU World Standing points based on their results.Shoma Uno of Japan currently holds the record for the most wins at the Lombardia Trophy in men's singles (with three), whileSara Conti andNiccolò Macii of Italy hold the record in pair skating (with four), andCharlène Guignard andMarco Fabbri, also of Italy, hold the record in ice dance (with eight). No one skater holds the record in women's singles as there has been a unique champion each time the event has been held.

History

[edit]

The inaugural edition of the Lombardia Trophy was held in 2013 inSesto San Giovanni.Alexander Majorov of Sweden won the men's event,Valentina Marchei of Italy won the women's event, andStefania Berton andOndřej Hotárek, also of Italy, won the pairs event. No competition was held in ice dance.[1]

TheISU Challenger Series was introduced in 2014. It is a series of international figure skating competitions sanctioned by theInternational Skating Union and organized byISU member nations. The objective is to ensure consistent organization and structure within a series of international competitions linked together, providing opportunities for senior-level skaters to compete at the international level and also earnISU World Standing points.[2] The Lombardia Trophy was a Challenger Series event in 2014, from 2016 through 2019, and from 2021 through 2025. No competition was held in 2020 due to theCOVID-19 pandemic, although it had already been left off the slate of competitions for the2020–21 ISU Challenger Series.[3] From 2013 to 2015, the competition was held in Sesto San Giovanni; since 2016, it has been held inBergamo.
