Liu Zhijian (Chinese:刘志坚; 1912 – March 11, 2006) was aPeople's Liberation Armylieutenant general. He was born inPingjiang County,Hunan Province. He joined theChinese Communist Party in 1931. He was a member of theEighth Route Army during theSecond Sino-Japanese War. He was captured in southern Hebei by Japanese forces, but later rescued. During theChinese Civil War, he was active in the region ofShanxi,Hebei,Shandong andHenan Provinces. During theCultural Revolution, he opposedJiang Qing. He was later sent byDeng Xiaoping toKunming for planning theSino-Vietnamese War along withYang Dezhi.[citation needed]
