Thelittle woolly mouse opossum (Marmosa phaea) is anocturnal,arboreal and mainly solitary species of South Americanmarsupial in the familyDidelphidae.[2] It is native to the western slopes of theAndes in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, where it lives at altitudes fromsea level to 1,500 metres (4,900 ft).[1] It primarily inhabits lowlandrainforest and montanecloud forest, although it has been reported fromdry forest in the southern end of its range.[1] It was formerly assigned to the genusMicoureus, which was made a subgenus ofMarmosa in 2009.[3] Its conservation status isvulnerable, due tohabitat fragmentation and continuingloss of habitat viaurbanization and conversion to agriculture.[1]
